My Career
What made you join Balfour Beatty? I had been working in the transport industry for about four or five years and wanted to move onto a bigger and better company.
What does your current role involve? Looking at processes and procedures within the business to see where we can maximise our productivity.
What job skills do you have to contribute to your work? Good communication, problem solving, mechanical and product knowledge, organising and prioritising work and using IT skills.
Best/worst parts of your job? The best is getting to see and play about with new equipment - I have a weird thing about trucks. The worst is the amount of travelling that can sometimes be involved.
Are you involved in any social activities through your work? I go out for a drink with my workmates quite regularly. We also take our customers go-karting every once in a while.
Best career advice you have been given? Always stick to your guns.
What trait(s) do you admire in co-workers? Being very upfront and saying what they mean.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? An astronaut. I clung-on to the dream until I was about 10 until I realised you basically have to be American and extremely clever.
What would you like to be doing in five years’ time? I would like to be driving around in my new Hummer H2 - it’s a very big type of 4x4.
Sum up your feelings to the company/ your role or career choice. Balfour Beatty is a great place to work. People are extremely friendly, there’s lots of training and development and it’s a very easy-going and comfortable environment. |
