What made you join Balfour Beatty?
I saw an advert in my local paper and after looking into the company via the website and taking part in the assessment day, I realised it was the type of apprenticeship I was looking for.
What does your current role involve?
I work the night shift and my role involves planning works with supervisors and works managers. Once on site I supply technical data in order for the track to be put in or maintained and when the work is finished I fill out the engineering diary to inform everyone of the work that was completed and any difficulties encountered.
What job skills do you have to contribute to your work?
I believe I am hard-worker and keen to learn. I also have a practical way of looking at problems - which is essential in engineering.
Best/worst parts of your job?
The best part is being able to continually prove and improve yourself. I learn new things everyday. The worst part is the unsociable hours.
Best career advice you have been given?
Make sure you are working on what is important – even though it may not be the most urgent.
Are you involved in any social activities through your work?
I was involved in the Track Alliance 5-a-side football tournament - where my team went on to lift the winners trophy despite starting as tournament underdogs.
What trait(s) do you admire in co-workers?
Being easy going - even under pressure, and hard working.
What would you like to be doing in five years’ time?
Working abroad on one of Balfour Beatty’s overseas contracts in somewhere like Australia.
