Orient Way Project
Balfour Beatty Rail Projects has been awarded the contract for the design and construction of 12 new railway sidings at Orient Way, situated just outside of the Olympic Park for the London 2012 Games. Awarded by the Olympic Delivery Authority, this is an important infrastructure project as it will help unlock a key part of the Olympic Park for the construction of the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre.
Under the contract, 5km of track will be installed to form the new sidings, covering the equivalent area to 3 full-size football pitches. With the sidings due to be finished by Summer 2008, the Orient Way works will be one of the first major 2012 transport projects to be completed.
The construction of the new sidings in Orient Way outside of the Park will allow an existing set of sidings at Thornton’s Field in the heart of the Olympic Park to be removed in Summer 2008, unlocking the area for the construction of the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre. |
