The Balfour Beatty Joint Venture with Carillion was, in October 2006, awarded the £363 million contract to create the new East London rail line by Transport for London.
Balfour Beatty Rail Projects and Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, in a 50/50 joint venture will be responsible with Carillion for railway works involving track, signalling, telecommunications and electrification, as well as major civil engineering works including two large new bridges, new stations and a new depot at New Cross Gate.
The contract, the first of two phases, involves the construction of the new line from Dalston Junction to New Cross Gate and New Cross, and work has already begun to meet the challenging completion date of September 09.
Proposals for the new line helped to underpin London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic Games. As well as playing a major role in transporting people to and from the Games, it will trigger substantial development and regeneration in some of London’s most deprived boroughs.
