Balfour Beatty Rail Plant is at the forefront of maintenance service provision and innovation to the UK rail industry.
Our core business is the provision of a wide variety of Rail Plant Equipment which is hired out to external and internal customers. We carry out operations in a variety of different disciplines including Track Maintenance, Tamping, Ballast Regulation, Track Consolidation and High Output Track Renewal.
Our actual equipment includes On Track Machines, New Track Construction Machines, Kirow Cranes and Road Rail Equipment. We can also provide other bespoke development of products, services and processes tailored to meet specific customer needs.
About Us
We have approximately 380 employees across the organisation.
The majority of our work is allocated far in advance and takes place on evenings and weekends as this is when we can gain access to the track. This fact means that we have to constantly plan to ensure our shifts are delivered successfully. Of course this can be hard work, but it’s rewarding seeing a smooth operation completed.
Types of roles
Due to the nature of our business we are able to offer broad and varied career paths.
We employ a large number of Plant Operators and Fitters. To work in these roles we require individuals with specific skills in order to operate and/or maintain the machinery. We provide additional specialist training for all our employees. Although we do have trainee opportunities from time to time it is always beneficial if you have relevant experience.
Other opportunities include roles from Reliability Engineers to Maintenance and Operations Managers; Supervisors to Planners and Administration Support. We also offer Graduate and Apprentice positions.
Working Environment
You might work on an on-track machine on a night shift, or in an operational office, You could be involved in a railway possession or even working in a van. Our wide variety of working methods mean that we are able to suit all individuals.
